Know Your Sharpener

Do you really know who's sharpening your tools? Get to know Bull Sharpening!
"We try to make it so that the customers don't have to go to anyone but Bull Sharpening for their tooling needs."
--Fred D'Antonio, Bull Sharpening Service, Inc.
Ask yourself the following question:
Do your resharpened carbide tipped saw blades last as long as they did when they were new? THEY SHOULD! It's the same carbide! If you have this problem, call us!

Want proof? See the difference!

When you turn your tools over to a company for sharpening, you're turning over your business.

Whether you're a large contractor or an amateur home woodworker, you can be sure that when you choose Bull Sharpening your tools will be taken care of.

For more than 15 years, Bull Sharpening has providing quality sharpening of carbide tipped and steel saw blades, router bits, shaper cutters and planer knives for builders, renovators, cabinet makers, architectural mill shops and hobbyists.

CNC Grinding Machines Mean Quality Sharpeing Much of Bull Sharpening's quality service is provided by our five tool grinding technicians who have more than 100 years combined experience. We improve your tools by combining this experience with the same sharpening systems that the manufacturer uses to produce the tools. These machines are operated by computer numerical control (CNC), which allows accurate and uniform grinding. When used with coolant and an extra fine grinding wheel, CNC machines provide the sharpest blade for the smoothest cuts possible.

In addition to the quality care we give your tools, we offer a tool replacement service. We carry a large inventory of products and brands of most of the tools we sharpen and many woodworking accessories. If a product is not in stock, we will draw from our large base of manufacturers or custom manufacture the product ourselves.

Located in Oak Park, IL, Bull Sharpening has clients from Hawaii and the Virgin Islands to New York, but also offers local pick-up and delivery, as well as walk-in service. Bull Sharpening guarantees one-week turnaround time for all sharpening orders.

We have found that customers who are interested in top-quality sharpening, fair pricing and quick turnaround do not mind shipping their tooling to us for professional sharpening.

Bull Sharpening's high quality blade sharpening equipment means better results. These pictures show actual blades magnified 80x. The top shows a blade sharpened with a common sharpening system. Note the jagged edges. These mean messier cuts and a shorter life for your blades. The bottom shows a blade sharpened by Bull Sharpening's CNC grinders with a 400 grit wheel. Note the smooth edge along the top. This means better cuts for you and longer life for your equipment.

Is your service shop saving you money or sacrificing your productivity?

  • Do you notice a decrease in your saw blade edge life after sharpening?
  • Do you notice a lot of build up on the saw's plate?
  • Does the build up on your saw appear to be even on both sides as well as around the diameter?
  • Is the face and back of the tooth parallel?
  • Have you ever noticed discoloration of your blade's steel plate?
  • How many sharpenings are you currently getting out of a new blade?
  • Are your tooling questions being answered to your satisfaction?
  • These are just a few of the problems we have solutions for.

Examples of Bad Sharpening

Incorrect Face Grinding

Face rounding caused primarily by grinding wheel deflection. If a face requires high removal amounts, it should be taken in multiple passes. Improper face grinding can create a more positive hook resulting in poor performance.

Fewer service lives due to excessive carbide removal necessary in achieving a sharp cutting edge.
Lower performance
Clearance angles are reduced more rapidly resulting in shorter runtimes between sharpenings.
Improper face grinding can create a more negative hook resulting in poor performance.

Incorrect Top Grind Incorrect Centering
Servicing only the tooth's top results in fewer sharpenings due to excessive carbide removal necessary in achieving a sharp cutting edge. Centered tooth configurations and in saw racking. Failure to center the grind results in saw plate deflection.

Correct Sharpening as done by Bull Sharpening Service
More Service lives (15 or more) due to minimum carbide removal to achieve a sharp cutting edge. Tooth remains symmetrical over serviceable life.

Consistent run time between sharpening-- clearance angles diminish at a much lower rate.
